“The Goldfarb Center has done well at organizing events with professionals in the spotlight. This year, I want to put more of that spotlight on students.”
Why are you engaged with the Goldfarb Center?
I have always been interested in international relations and public affairs. Coming to Colby, I searched for opportunities where I can enrich my knowledge on these matters and a community of like-minded students that I can be actively involved in. The Goldfarb Center not only satisfies both of these requirements, but also has a mission that I align with. What’s more, before I joined the Executive Board, I went to many events that the Center organizes and learned a lot in the process. Knowing how resourceful the Center is, I want to further extend this opportunity to learn and engage with big topics with others across the campus.
What does leadership mean to you as someone on the Goldfarb Student Executive Board?
I believe that as a student leader I have a responsibility to be responsive to what Colby students are interested in, as well as demonstrate and connect them with opportunities to deepen their understanding of public affairs. In addition, as a person of color and an international student, I want to show how accessible the Center is and encourage minority students to engage and make their voices heard.
Do you have any specific goals or ideas you’d like to see implemented?
Over the years, the Goldfarb Center has done a great job at organizing events with professionals in the spotlight. This year, with the theme “Freedom of Speech,” I want to put more of that spotlight on students. Our campus is getting more diverse and with that comes a wider variety of opinions, some of which are often under-recognized. I’m hoping to open a space where students can voice their opinions.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for this year?
We have a great list already of guest speakers to invite to campus this year. I think that they are all amazing people and will bring a new wind to the current atmosphere of Goldfarb’s events. Please follow our events closely and be prepared for major surprises!
